Lately, a lot of my clients, new and returning, have been calling and asking me the same question:
“Microsoft says they are ending support for Windows 10. Does that mean my computer will stop working?”
The simple answer is: No, your computer will not suddenly stop working, and you definitely don’t need a new one either.
What “End of Support” Means
When Microsoft says they are ending support, it means:
They will stop sending out updates for Windows 10.
They will not add new features or improvements.
They will no longer fix security issues in Windows 10.
But here’s the important part:
Your computer will still turn on, still run, and you can still use it just like you do today.
Do You Have to Buy a New Computer?
No, you do not need to rush out and buy a new computer. I personally still use Windows 10 and will continue to use it for as long as I can. It’s comfortable for me and I like the style so if it’s comfortable for you, don’t worry! :)
If your computer is working fine for your needs, you can keep using it.
You can still use the internet, email, and your programs after support ends.
Over time, it may become less secure, but it won’t just “shut down.”
What Are Your Options?
Keep Using Windows 10 – If you feel comfortable, you can keep using it. Just be careful about clicking unknown links or downloading things you don’t trust.
Upgrade to Windows 11 – Some computers can be updated to the newer version. This is not required right away.
Wait Until You’re Ready – If your computer is working, you can take your time. No need to make a quick or expensive decision.
If you are worried about security risks or lack of support, give us a call! This is what we do all day every day with all of our clients, we’d be more than happy to help over the phone or in person.
Final Thoughts
Don’t worry—your computer will not suddenly stop working when support ends. If you ever feel unsure, give us a call and we can help you decide what’s best for you.
