How to Bookmark a Website in Safari on Your iPhone So You Can Find It Again
July 13, 2026 · by Porchswing Technology
Remember keeping a little address book by the phone, with the important numbers written in ink and the rest in pencil? A bookmark on your iPhone works much the same way. When you find a website you know you'll want to visit again — your bank, the weather page, a favorite recipe site — you can save it once and go straight back to it later, without having to remember the address or search all over again.
Here's how to do it in Safari, the blue compass app that comes with your iPhone.
Saving the Website
Start by opening Safari and going to the website you want to keep. Let's say you've pulled up your local newspaper's page and you'd like to visit it every morning.
Once the page is loaded, look at the bottom of the screen. You'll see a row of small icons. In the middle is a square with an arrow pointing up out of it — that's the Share button. Tap it.
A menu will slide up from the bottom of the screen. Scroll down through the options a little and you'll see Add Bookmark. Tap that.
A new screen will appear showing the name of the website. You can leave the name as it is, or tap on it and type something shorter and easier to recognize — like "Morning Paper." When you're ready, tap Save in the top right corner.
That's it. The website is now filed away.
Finding Your Bookmark Later
Now, the whole point of saving something is being able to find it again. Here's how you go back.
Open Safari. At the bottom of the screen, look for the icon that looks like an open book. Tap it.
You'll see a list of your bookmarks. Tap the one you just saved, and Safari will take you right to that website. No typing, no searching, no hunting around.
Think of it like the difference between looking up a phone number in the White Pages every time versus flipping open your rolodex to the card you've already written out.
A Small Tip That Helps
If you save several bookmarks over time, the list can get long. It helps to give each one a short, clear name when you save it — "Chase Bank," "Weather," "Sunday Crossword" — rather than the long official name the website suggests.
To rename a bookmark you've already saved, open the book icon, find the bookmark, and swipe your finger from right to left across it. A blue button labeled Rename (or Edit) will appear. Tap it, type a better name, and tap Done.
Try It Today
Pick one website you visit often — maybe your email, your bank, or the site where you check the news. Open it in Safari, tap the Share button (the square with the arrow going up), and choose Add Bookmark. Give it a name you'll recognize at a glance, and save it.
The next time you want to go there, you won't have to type a single letter.
