How to Bookmark a Website in Safari So You Can Find It Again

Remember keeping a little address book by the phone — the one with grease spots on the "P" page for the pizza place you called every Friday? A bookmark on your iPhone works the same way. When you find a website you like, you can tuck it away so you never have to hunt for it again.
Here's how to do it in Safari, the built-in web browser on your iPhone. (A browser is just the app you use to visit websites — the blue compass icon.)
Saving the Bookmark
Open Safari and go to the website you want to save. It could be your local newspaper, your church's page, or the weather site you check every morning.
Once the page has loaded, look at the row of icons along the bottom of the screen. Tap the middle icon — it looks like a small square with an arrow pointing up out of it. This is the Share button.
A menu will slide up from the bottom. Scroll down that menu a little and you'll see the words Add Bookmark. Tap it.
A small box appears letting you name the bookmark. Safari usually fills in a name for you, but you can change it to something you'll recognize — "Weather" or "Betty's Blog." When you're happy with the name, tap Save in the top right corner.
That's it. The website is saved.
Finding Your Bookmark Later
The next time you want to visit that website, open Safari again. Along the bottom, tap the icon that looks like an open book. That's your bookmark shelf.
You'll see a list of every website you've saved. Tap the one you want, and Safari takes you straight there — no typing, no guessing at the address.
Think of it like the difference between looking a number up in the phone book every time and just flipping open your rolodex.
Getting Rid of Ones You Don't Want
Bookmarks can pile up, just like clippings on the refrigerator. When one has outlived its usefulness, you can tidy up.
Open the bookmark list (that open-book icon again). Tap Edit in the bottom right corner. A little red circle appears next to each bookmark. Tap the red circle beside the one you want to remove, then tap Delete. When you're done, tap Done in the bottom right.
A Small Tip on Naming
The name you give a bookmark is the name you'll see later — so make it plain. "New York Times" is easier to spot at a glance than "NYT Home - Breaking News, World News..." which is what Safari might suggest.
If a name looks long or cluttered when you're saving, just tap the little x at the end of the name box to clear it, then type something short and clear.
Try It Today
Pick one website you visit often — your bank, a recipe site, the obituary page from your hometown paper. Open it in Safari, tap the Share button (the square with the arrow), and choose Add Bookmark. Give it a short name and save it.
The next time you reach for that website, you'll find it waiting for you on the bookmark shelf — no more typing the address, no more searching. Just one tap, and you're there.
